Support for You

Breast cancer can be scary and confusing, both for those diagnosed and for their friends and family. It’s important to have a strong support network to help with the physical and emotional demands of the disease. Remember, you are not alone. There are many support services available to assist you on this journey, including:

  • 1-877 GO KOMEN, a free breast care helpline offering professional support services to anyone with breast health and breast cancer concerns, including breast cancer patients and their families.
  • The Co-Survivor section of Komen’s national website, where friends and family members can share tips and advice, and read personal stories from others who have been in similar situations.

Tapestry of Healing Support Group
This group was created for women with advanced and metastatic breast cancer. The group meets MONTHLY on the 2nd Thursday of the month from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the American Cancer Society located at 1445 N. Union Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80909. For more information contact Peggy Thomas, RN, MN, AOCN at 719-776-4541 or Cherie Draxton, LCSW at 719-365-8531.

Supported by a grant from Southeastern Colorado Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This monthly group is a cooperative community effort (of Memorial Health System, Penrose Cancer Center and Susan G. Komen) to bring education, support and resources to women with metastatic breast cancer.

Cancer Survivors Invited to Participate in New Study
A new research study is underway through a partnership with the University of Colorado Cancer Center and Stanford University Chronic Disease Self-Management. The study explores tools in self-management that can help people with chronic conditions feel better. The study is specifically designed to help cancer patients with the "now what" phase after active treatment is completed. To learn more or participate, go to www.coaw.org or call Linda Nugent at 888-900-2629.
