Go Passionately Pink to help save lives! — Just wear pink, have fun and raise money to fight breast cancer. Be inspired by the multitude of ideas right here, or think of your own. There are so many creative ways to have fun and fight breast cancer.
A poker tournament was held at the Quill Bar and Grill on March 10. This event was held as part of Susan G. Komen's Passionately Pink for the Cure and Rally ofr the Cure programs and featured great poker fun! Marlene and her helpers put together a very successful event, resulting in over $2000 being raised to benefit our Affiliate.
During the month of February, bowling leagues around the Pikes Peak region Bowled for the Cure. During their regular league bowling, bowlers participated in a number of activities to help raise money to fight breast cancer. Thia year's bowlers raised over $5000. (Nationally over $9 million dollars have been raised!) This is a joint effort between our local Affiliate and the Pikes Peak United States Bowling Congress.
The Ninth Annual Bunko for the Cure™ was held at the Peterson Spouses' Club at Peterson AFB on February 21. It was a wonderful evening of Bunko, prizes, and food! All proceeds benefitted our Affiliate. This is our longest-running third-party event and thanks to Chair Farrah Champion and these military spouses, our Affiliate has received over $15,000
On February 18, at RAM Off-Road Park, the local Military Jeepers Club hosted Jeepin' for Jugs, an event to benefit the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate. All vehicles were "topless" during this Jeep Run despite the cold weather! During this inaugural event (this will be an annual event!) these off-roaders raised over $2000! Thanks to Kristin and Billy for all their hard work on this event!
Waste Connections of Colorado, Inc. entered into a partnership with our local Affiliate. Beginning in April and continuing throughout the year, Waste Conncections donated to the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate the $ amount of one month's service for each new customer who subscribed for service. Thank you to owner Tracy Scranton for donating over $25,000 to our Affiliate.
2011 Honorary Survivors Kerry Dwyer, Sharlene Haden, and Lesa Graybill met with Charles Neugebauer at his Briargate jewelry store The Gilded Artisan to design a charm bracelet bead in order to raise awareness and funds. The bead depicts these survivor's personal breast cancer stories. All of the proceeds from the custom designed charm sales went to support the Affiliate. Additional beads were introduced throughout 2011 and 25% of the proceeds from the sale of these beads benefited the Affiliate. Thank you to Charles Neugebauer at The Gilden Artisan for doing this for our Affiliate! 
♦Accessorize for the Cure
During the month of October, Thirty-One consultant Sonja Rogers donated to our Affiliate $1 of every $31 customers spent on Thirty-One merchandise. Thanks, Sonja!

For every car sold between September 30 and October 30, Kuni Lexus of Colorado Spring donated $100 to our Southeastern Colorado Affiliate. This promotion resulted in $6400 being raised for our Affiliate. In addition, Kuni Lexus had a Lexus automobile wrapped with Susan G. Komen for the Cure signage, which the dealership made available for display at various Komen and third-party events throughout the month of October. Thanks to Marketing Director Ben Martin, General Manager Ed Baur, and the entire sales staff for a successful event!
Each week in October, 2011, Online Dancewear showcased a different product on their website and donated $1 to our Affiliate for each one sold. Thanks to Danielle Casa for her $350 donation as a result of this promotion!

The Wildwood Casino in Cripple Creek designated the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate as its Charity of the Month in October, 2011. As its monthly charity, our Affiliate received $1000. In addition, the Wildwood sold t-shirts and hosted other fundraising activities.
During the month of October, 50 cents per cup of any drink sold was donated by Kangaroo Coffee, a new drive-in coffee business, to the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate. In addition, all money from all purchases on October 14 was donated to the Affiliate. Thanks to business owner Rue Lyon.
A pink-jeweled, special-edition bracelet was on sale during October 2011, with 20% of the proceeds benefiting our Affiliate.Brighton presented us with a check for over $3000....this is almost double what was raised last year!

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is proud to be the beneficiary of Fiesta for the Cure™ hosted by On the Border at our participating local restaurants. This national program began in 2008 and resulted in a donation of $413,936 to Komen National in 2010.
During the month of October, 2011, all proceeds from the sale of a special pink ribbon $20 tattoo were donated to the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate. Thanks to Ian and his crew of artists!
On October 20, from 6 to 9 PM, Uniquely Yours hosted their Fashion Passion for the Cure event at the Flying Horse Club ballroom. Activities included a fashion show, dinner, and a silent auction. Twenty % of the proceeds from ticket sales and fifty % of silent auction sales will be donated to our local Affiliate. Thank you to Lisa Stewart and her staff for a woderful event.
On October 20 in the Cadet Gym at the Air Force Academy, the Lady Falcon Volleyball team lost to a strong U. of Wyoming Volleyball team in a match dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness. Anyone wearng pink was admitted to the game for free and the first 100 fans in attendance received free food from the Noodles Co. Our Affiliate always appreciates Matt and his marketing team for working with us throughout the year to promote breast cancer awareness.
There were 12 days of fun raising money at the Sonic Drive-In in Woodland Park for Breast Cancer Awareness. The crew hopped and donated their tips to the cause from October 6 thru 9. The carhops were able to raise over $300.....thanks to all of them for sacrificing their tips to our cause.

A group of local, independent Stampin' Up Demonstrators hosted a "World Card-Making Day" event on October 1. Attendees enjoyed making paper craft projects, fine food and drinks, and a successful silent auction. 100% of the proceeds went to the Southeastern Affiliate. Thank you to Cathy Casey, Cathy Dalton, and all the demonstrators for another fun event.
♦Crazy 8 Poker Run
The El Dorado Lounge at 11. N Circle hosted a Poker Run on September 10, 2011, and donated the rpoceeds ($700) to our local Affiliate. Bikes, cars, and wheels spent the day cruising around Colorado Springs and vicinity trying to get the best poker hand. There was lots of food, prizes, giveaways, and fun! Imagine a Harley with pink ribbons! A special thank you to owner Trisha Lanza and Cathy Rush for their hospitality and hard work!
♦Colorado Dept of Corrections Fundraiser
May and June were months of raising dollars for our Affiliate by the hardworking men and women of the Dept. of Corrections. The Buena Vista Facility was motivated to contribute in order to see their admin team with hair sprayed pink! Because almost $6400 was raised by CDOC facilities, Warden Kellie Lasko and Associate Warden Laurie Tafoya of La Vista Correctional Facility cut off all their hair and donated it to Locks of Love. Outstanding job of fundraising!
♦Flash Mob for the Cure™
On June 19, 2011, the Flash Mob Dance was videoed during Springspree, and the video is now LIVE on YouTube. Go to Flash Mob Video and watch the video.....the more hits, the more money for our Affiliate. Thanks to Michael Davis of Star Media, Inc. and his crew for their work on this event.
♦Colorado Flames Fundraiser
The Colorado Springs Flames football team dedicated their game against the Denver Pirates on June 11, 2011, as a fundraiser for the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate and to promote breast cancer awareness. Teams and cheerleaders (as well as many of the fans!) wore pink. Komen volunteers solicited donations to benefit our Affiliate. Thanks to the Flames for a great game!
♦Bowl for the Cure® Community Event
On June 5, ten bowling centers around the Pikes Peak region supported our first community-wide event as part of Bowl for the Cure, which is a joint effort between our Affiliate and the Pikes Peak USBC. Bowlers, friends, and family bowled in a 9 Pin/No-Tap format competition. There was fun and prizes, including pink lanes where bowlers tried to get a strike when the head pin was pink! There was lots of bowling fun, food, and prizes! Congratulations to Mary Webster, President of Pikes Peak USBC, and her team of volunteers for the close to $8000 raised at this event!
♦Pueblo Steel Fundraiser
The Pueblo Steel football team dedicated their game against the Colorado Springs Flames on June 4, 2011, as a fundraiser for the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate and to promote breast cancer awareness. Teams and cheerleaders (as well as many of the fans!) wore pink. Komen volunteers solicited donations and the Steel raffled off a "pink Basket" full of goodies to benefit our Affiliate. Thanks to General Manager Gina DeJesus for providing such a beautiful basket and for her staff's hospitality
♦Mother's Day Serenade
Uniquely Yours at 12229 Voyager Parkway hosted a Mother's Day Serenade on May 7, with a performance by The Voices Of Loving Kindness. 50% of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to our local Affiliate. Thank you to Lisa Stewart and her staff.
Wacoal hosts Fit for the Cure® events to help women across the country find their perfect fit. For every woman fitted at a Fit for the Cure® event, Wacoal will donate $2.00 to Komen for the Cure. The most recent Fit for the Cure event was April 28th at Dillard’s in the Pueblo Mall.
On April 23rd, the 2011 Shred for the Cure brought in over $1000 to our Affiliate. Participants brought their confidential papers...old bank statements, credit card slips, tax records and more which were safely and securely disposed of. Thanks to Shirley Russell, Annie Luke, and their crew of helpers for all their hard work on this event.

♦Bowl for the Cure®
Members of the Martha Allin Traveleague(Mary, Linda, Shirley, Beulah and Terry) are enjoying their recent Bowl for the Cure event. Mary Webster, President of the Pikes Peak USBC, has been instrumental in making this year's Bowl for the Cure even bigger and better. So far, close to $6000 has been raised by leagues whose members had fun bowling and raising money for our local Affiliate.
♦Bunko for the Cure™
The Eighth Annual Bunko for the Cure™ was held at the Peterson Spouses' Club at Peterson AFB on Tuesday, February 15. A wonderful evening of Bunko, prizes, and food resulted in over $2200 being raised for our local Affiliate. Thank you to Farrah Champion for putting on another terrific event!
Pine Creek High School sponsored their annual Hoops for a Cure to raise money for and to increase breast cancer awareness. The event was held in the Pine Creek HS gym on February 12 and 15 during the men's and women's games. All proceeds from donation cards, t-shirt sales, scarf sales, and bake sales were donated to the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate. Thank you to women's basketball coach Kelley Stewart and her players and volunteers for all their hard work to make this event an annual success!
On February 5, in conjunction with National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the AFA invited all fans to participate in a special youth clinic with AFA coaches and players and then root on the Falcon women's basketball team as they hosted Utah for their annual "Pink Game." Fans created a "sea of pink" in the stands and generated awareness for breast cancer support in the community. Special thanks to Matt Swearingen who invited our Affiliate to provide breast health education at this event.
Jennifer Cunningham, a Scentsy independent consultant sold the Love, Life, Hope warmer (pink ribbon product) to benefit our local Affiliate. Komen customers purchased this warmer through a dedicated online link. Whenever a purchase is made through the dedicated link, our Southeastern Colorado Affiliate received 15% of every sale. Thank you, Jennifer!
Dr. Shields gave a free whitening at his office to anyone making a $100 donation to the local Affiliate during the months of October and November. Dr. Shields' office is located at 703 N Cascade (across from the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate office.) This is the second year that Dr. Shields has had this promotion to benefit our Affiliate and resulted in $800 in donations. Thank you to Dr. Shields and his dedicated staff!
On October 30, Lillians at 7477 N Academy hosted Fashion for the Cure®. The shoppe was decked out in pink, along with strings of pink lights that customers purchased for $10 throughout the month in honor of someone with cancer. 10% of the day's net sales and all proceeds from the light purchases were donated to the local Affiliate. Thank you to Kelli Holt for making this a fun event for her shoppers.
All three On the Border Restaurants in Colorado Springs hosted a Give Back Night for our Southeastern Colorado Affiliate on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 26-27, 2010. Fiesta for the Cure® Give Back Night resulted in all three restaurants donating 10% of the proceeds from all food sold. Thanks to Dan, Mike, Shannon, and Chris, On the Border Restaurant managers who made this event happen for our Affiliate.
This event is an extension of the Fiesta for the Cure national partnership between On the Border and Susan G Komen for the Cure®.
For every bottle of Five Rivers wine sold in El Paso, Pueblo, and Teller counties during the month of October, the Brown-Forman Corporation contributed $1.00 to the Komen Southeastern Colorado Affiliate.
Village Inn Restaurants sold the Pink Ribbon French Silk Pie during the month of October. The pie was a special design of their French Silk pie with a pink ribbon pick and pink ribbon sprinkles. For every pie sold in our tri-county area, $1.00 was donated to our Southeastern Colorado Affiliate.
Firefighters from the Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Deoartment designed a t-shirt to promote breast cancer awareness. They sold the shirts throughout October and donated all proceeds to the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate. The station is located at 166 2nd St in Monument. Thank you to Marcus Matthynssens and his entire firefighting crew for all their hard work!
The Promenade Shops at Briargate conducted a number of special activities in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Brighton, MaggieMoo's Ice Cream & Eatery, and Soma were just a few of the merchants getting involved and creating opportunities for awareness throughout the month of October. In addition, MaggieMoo's donated 15% of total sales every Monday.
The local Affiliate hosted Shred for the Cure at Citadel Mall on Saturday, October 23. People could bring up to 5 boxes or bags of paper to be securely shredded on site. Donation were collected to benefit our Affiliate.
A fashion show and auction was held at the Colorado Women's Expo on October 23 to benefit the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate. Models were survivors and their outfits (donated by Macy's) were auctioned off. Our Affiliate received 100% of the proceeds from the auction. In addition, all 2010 Race participants were given discount admission and all attendees at the 2010 Survivor Luncheon were given free admission. Thanks to Barbara Donnell for organizing this event for our Affiliate.
The Woodland Park Sonic Drive-In and its crew were decked out in pink from October 20 through 24 while they raised money for our Southeastern Colorado Affiliate and increased breast cancer awareness. They sold $1 and $5 Susan G. Komen donation cards in addition to collecting donations. The crew spread the word through their Facebook accounts and they even donated their tips! Thanks to Amber Jacobs and her crew!
This year's Volley for the Cure® was held at the Cadet Gymnasium during the Air Force - San Diego State volleyball match on October 21, 2010. Anyone wearing pink was admitted to the match for free! In addition, the first 200 fans received a free commemorative t-shirt at the gate and the shirts went fast! The PA system continued to promote breast cancer awareness as the Lady Falcons beat San Diego State in front of a standing-room-only crowd!
A very successful Survivor Luncheon and Fashion Show was held at First Presbyterian Church on October 16. There were lots of door prizes, great food, and a fantastic fashion show. Many thanks go to co-chairs Claire Avant and Rita Olson, along with their hard-working committee fr such a special event.
Coldwater Creek donated $1.00 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for every customer who tried on clothing at their store in the Shops at Briargate on October 3, 2010. Thank you, Coldwater Creek!
A group of independent Stampin' Up demonstrators hosted their fourth annual Stampin' for a Cure™ on October 2, 2010, at the Candlewood Suites on North Academy. There were two sessions of card and papercraft making (9 AM to 12 PM and 1 PM to 4 PM) and lots of great food, door prizes and a silent auction. All proceeds went to our local Affiliate...this year's event raised over $6000! This event holds the record for the most funds raised by a third-party for our Affiliate. Thanks to Kimberly Van Diepen (who flew in from Virginia for the event) Cathy Casey, Kristy Schroeder, and all the Stampin' Up ladies for a very successful event.
This year's Give Back Night was held at the north On the Border location at 7695 N Academy Blvd on September 21. As part of the Fiesta for the Cure®, On the Border will donate 10% of all food and beverage purchases to our local Affiliate. Thanks to all diners who participated and a special thanks to manager Dan Wensel and his crew!
Susan G Komen for the Cure® teamed up with Massage Envy for the 6th Annual One-Day Massage for the Cure® event on September 14, 2010. For every $49 one-hour massage, $15 was donated to our local Affiliate. Participating Colorado Springs locations were Briargate: 9235 N Union, Ste 120 and Stetson Hills: 5966 Stetson Hills Blvd. Thanks, Massage Envy!
The Pikes Peak Women Golfers hosted their 13th annual golf tournament as part of Komen's Rally for the Cure® program at the Country Club of Colorado on August 17. Participating golfers enjoyed a round of golf, door prizes, awards, and a barbeque dinner. 100% of the net proceeds will benefit the Komen Southeastern Colorado Affiliate. Thanks to Nancy Shirm, Eileen Wolff, and their committee for a wonderful event!
Phil Long Audi hosted the Audi Quattro Cup Golf Tournament on July 26, 2010, at the Country Club of Colorado. Our local Affiliate will receive 25% of the proceeds in the name of Kari Fogle. Our own Chris McCloy had the opportunity to speak at the luncheon held after a morning of golf. Thank you to JoAnn Berkhimer and her staff for all their hard work to make this a fantastic and successful event.
Pueblo Steel of the Colorado Football League supported the Susan G. Komen Southeastern Colorado Affiliate during their game against the Denver Pirates on July 24, 2010, at Dutch Clark Stadium. In addition to promoting breast cancer awareness, Komen Southeastern Colorado collected donations and promoted our Race for the Cure and Pueblo Pooches in Pink. Thanks to General Manager Gina DeJesus and Coach Doug Kenyon.

The 2010 Race for the Cure® registration officially opened on June 4 with Pink in the Park. Harris IT Services partnered with Komen to sponsor this event at Security Service Field. More than 7400 people came out for the Sky Sox game. Attendees participated in a successful silent auction, lucky ball toss, and plenty of fireworks...all to benefit the Affiliate. Thanks to the Race sponsors, volunteers, Sky Sox staff, and Board members who supported the event and made it memorable.
On June 4th and 5th, 2010, the Broadmoor Tennis Club hosted the 2nd Annual Tennis Rally for the Cure®. The event was a fabulous success and included a cocktail party, luncheon, guest speakers, and plenty of tennis competitions and clinics. The Southeastern Colorado Affiliate is fortunate to be the recipient of such commitment and support. Thank you to Karen Brandner and her team at the Broadmoor who made the event so successful.
The 9th Annual Colorado Springs Women's Golf Scramble was held June 4, 2010, at the beautiful Broadmoor Mountain Course. The Convention & Visitors Bureau once again invited our Affiliate to participate as a hole sponsor and be the recipient of donations. Nearly $200 was raised at the event where volunteers shared information about Komen, breast cancer, and breast health. Thanks to Tom Schwagart and his team for including us and supporting the Komen mission.
The 2010 Sr. PGA Championships were held May 28-29, 2010, at the Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colorado. The Southeastern Colorado Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® was the grateful recipient this year in the PGA's Charity Program. Benefits included free event tickets, passes to VIP events, and outreach opportunities for our Affiliate. Thank you to all at the Sr. PGA for including our Affiliate in this experience.
The employees and leadership at the Wildwood Casino in Cripple Creek raised more than $2900 for our Affiliate during the month of May, 2010. General Manager Kevin Werner even took pies in the face from customers and staff willing to make a $10 donation to Komen. Employees donated money to wear jeans and Komen also received money when customers ate the Granny's Kitchen Special! Thanks, Kevin, for being such a good sport and to all at the Wildwood for supporting our mission.
Lisa Stewart and the staff at Uniquely Yours recognized Komen throughout May, 2010, with a month-long celebration of mothers and flowers. Saturday specials, like the Wake Up for the Cure™ breakfast and an educational presentation for customers, raised over $400 for the Affiliate, and of course a greater awareness about breast cancer and breast health. Congratulation to Lisa (who has pledged to have a monthly special to benefit our Affiliate) and her staff for a successful event.
After an extremely hot and windy day with many hours of labor, the Affiliate net funds raised from the garage sale totaled $1439. Thank you to everyone who participated in the sale as a donor, purchaser, or volunteer.
Our friends at the Beacham Gallery hosted a beautiful evening of art, music, song, and food. The event raised more than $500 for our Affiliate. Many thanks to Jon, Morris, Robin and all who made the evening so special.
The USAFA Rocked the Cure on February 20, 2010, during the Falcon women's basketball game against the University of New Mexico. All fans wearing pink were admitted to the game for free and participated in trying to break the Guiness World Record for largest Air Guitar ensemble! Although they fell a little short of the record, fans had a great time getting air guitar lessons from Elvis!
♦Bunko for the Cure™The Peterson AFB and USAFA Spouse Clubs held their annual Bunko for the Cure™ event on February 16, 2010. Bunko players tossed their bunko dice while enjoying prizes and refreshments. This year's event raised $2183 and is one of the most continuous being held for the local affiliate.
The Tuesday morning Hillbowlies participated in their 2nd Annual Bowl for the Cure® event on February 9, 2010, during their regular league play. Last year this group of pink-clad lady bowlers raised $1968 for our Affiliate and this year upped the donation to over $2000! Poor weather kept many customers away but Fiesta for the Cure resulted in all three restaurants donating 10% of the proceeds from all food sold that day, not just to Komen customers! The event was cancelled due to bad weather. The USAFA will be hosting other third-party events in 2010.
Dr. Mary Beth Sanders and her staff attended health fairs and festivals throughout 2009 to promote Chiropractic Lifestyles' initiative on behalf of Komen Colorado Springs. The initiative resulted in a donation of $1020 to our Affilliate.
A group of independent Stampin' Up demonstrators hosted their third annual Stamping for a Cure™ on October 3, 2009, at the Candlewood Suites. The two sessions of card and paper craft making and the Crop 'Til you Drop raised close to $5000! (This a record for an event such as this.) Great food, door prizes, and a silent auction contributed to a successful event. Thanks to Cathy Casey, Kim Van Diepen, and Ruth Harris and all the wonderful demonstrators for their help on this event.
Pikes Peak Women Golfers hosted a Rally for the Cure® event on October 6, 2009, at Kissing Camels Club. In addition to a wonderful round of golf, the ladies enjoyed prizes/awards and an Italian dinner.
Fit for a Cure® sponsored by Wacoal , one of our national sponsors, was held at the Chapel Hills Dillard's lingerie department on October 6, 2009, and the Citadel Dillard's lingerie department on October 8. Our Affiliate will receive $2 for each bra fitting and an additional $2 for a sale. This is a program that has resulted in many dollars being sent to our Affiliate thanks to the work of Christine and Susan at their Dillard's stores.
On Tuesday, September 15, 2009, Massage Envy hosted its 3rd annual Massage for the Cure®event at its 2 Colorado Springs locations. For the first time, this event was held nationally with nearly 600 Massage Envy clinics and 40 states participating. Massage Envy offered one-hour therapeutic massage sessions for $35 each, with $10 from each massage to be donated directly to the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate. Additional donations were also accepted.
River Runners hosted the 3rd annual Raft for the Cure® event on July 26, 2009, to raise awareness for breast cancer research. Proceeds from this event were divided between the Denver and Southeastern Colorado Affiliate. Although fewer people went rafting this year, River Runners is committed to maker it an even bigger event next year!
Jennifer Walsh and Liz Killen of Lia Sophia held their Glitz and Glamour for the Cure event on April 5, 2009. Everyone loved the jewelry, resulting in $750 being raised for our Affiliate. The Peterson AFB and USAFA Spouse Clubs held their annual Bunko for the Cure™ event on February 24, 2009. Over 100 enthusiastic bunko players threw the dice, bought tickets to win a quilt, and raised over $2800 for Komen Colorado Springs. That is $800 more dollars than was donated last year!
On February 10, 2009, the Tuesday morning Hillbowlies raised $1968 for Komen Colorado Springs.
